Just as it seems almost impossible to keep up with all the new restaurants , this also applies to hotels. In NSMBL Hotel Hotspots you’ll find the most beautiful, exciting and unique hotels domestically and abroad, from affordable to super exclusive. With locations ranging from Amsterdam to Paris from New York to Thailand : these hotels are hotspot -worthy. Today: Yays Zoutkeetsgracht in Amsterdam.
Unlike other hotels, with Yays you get a whole apartment at your disposal. Not à la AirBNB, but in a recently renovated complex with a few dozen apartments, all in the same clean style and filled with beautiful designer furniture. Yet no single apartment is exactly the same - after all they are authentic Amsterdam canal houses - what makes you feel right at home. Yays currently has three locations , just outside the center: Bickersgracht, Oostenburgergracht and Zoutkeetsgracht. We tested the last one!
The Zoutkeetsgracht is situated 5 minutes from the town center, just above the Jordaan, and is easily accessible by public transport. When we arrive we see a stately and serene canal house, nearly the best part of the whole street . It looks new and the outside is barely recognizable as a hotel; no unnecessary frills. We walk inside and we see a bright space: it is super minimalist, all white, with a simple concierge desk in the middle. Just a minute later we are already in the midst of 'our ' apartment, while we get a brief tour. A full kitchen (with fridge, oven and dishwasher), a delicious fluffy bed, sofa and beautiful views over the canal: this will be a fun night.
Just as the entrance the floors and walls of the apartment are also minimalist white. The ceilings are not very high, and this makes the room feel as light and widely as possible. The kitchen has enough kitchen utensils to cook the whole day and it is also neat and clean. Directly off the kitchen is a sitting area with designer chairs and a prominent sofa bed, large TV, and accessories like a pair of books about Amsterdam with sincere interest and local tips. In the bedroom you will only find a comfortable bed ,two night tables and a large hidden closet with extra sheets, clothes hangers, towels and beauty essentials . The apartment that we stayed in was about 45 square meters and designed for two persons, with optional expansion through the sofa bed.
we have had a great welcome, had a good sleep and we’ve finally lived in a real canal house, if only for one night. Yays Zoutkeetsgracht is a wonderful, peaceful base just outside the city center, ideal for business trips (because you have a whole apartment at your disposal), as well as Dutch tourists - and even a local! - Fun to experience the canal life once and to be inspired to your own (future) home.
