Head to the Amsterdam Christmas markets the weeks before Christmas for a unique take on the traditional festive markets. The ideal time to find last-minute gift inspiration - or to start panic buying!

The most wonderful time of the year is coming… And that means there will be a lot of Christmas Markets in Amsterdam! Christmas is the time of yummy food, hot drinks and lots and lots of cosiness. But, presents need to be bought, and why not do that at one of the nice markets in the charming streets of Amsterdam where local entrepreneurs display their goods and crafts?

To help you find your perfect gifts, we present our 5 favourite neighbourhood Christmas markets this year:

1. Funky Xmas Market (Sunday Market) - Westergasfabriek
This market, held every first Sunday of the month, opens its doors especially for Christmas on Sunday the 10th of December. Situated in the industrial and hip Westergasfabriek, you'll be sure not to only find a locally made gift for your mom, but also enjoy some live music and amazing food! This makes Christmas shopping a lot more fun. Art, fashion and design, you'll find it here!

When: Sunday 16 December, noon - 18:00
Where: Westergasfabriek (Westerpark), a 10-minute walk from Yays Zoutkeetsgracht & Yays Bickersgracht

2. The Amsterdam Christmas Market - Kromhouthal
The most colourful and cosy Christmas market in Amsterdam, where you can buy all your gifts in one go while enjoying live music, great DJ's, theatre and children's activities, antique Dutch games, glühwein, craft beer, wintery dishes, campfires, hot chocolate and a lot of typical Amsterdam salesman baloney. The beautifully lit warehouse on the NDSM ship wharf even offers a gift wrapping service!

When: Friday 21 December & Saturday 22 December, 15:00 - 01:00
Where: Kromhouthal on the NDSM wharf, a 10-minute ferry ride from Yays Zoutkeetsgracht & Yays Bickersgracht

3. Scandinavian Christmas Market - Muiderkerk
The long, dark winters in the Northern hemisphere is a special period. Gather around the light of the candles, find the warmth of the fireplace and taste the delicious bread and cookies that fill the room with their sweet scents. Come and enjoy the huge collection of Norwegian plaids, sweaters, jewellery and handmade Christmas decorations. Finland is also represented with amazing sauna-accessories and textiles, as well as the Danish 'Smørrebrød'.

When: Friday 7 December & Saturday 8 December, 10:00 - 17:00
Where: Muiderkerk near Oosterpark, a 15-minute walk from Yays Oostenburgergracht

4. Pure Winter Market - Park Frankendael
For everyone who likes to think of the environment when shopping for their loved ones, this Christmas Market is a gift itself. Here you'll find special organic produce and sustainable handmade presents. This travelling market is also the place to explore, discover, taste and learn about all the different foods of Holland (and the rest of the world). Young visitors can go for a spin in the solar-powered merry-go-round.

When: Sunday 16 & 23 December 11:00 - 17:00
Where: Park Frankendael, a pleasant 30-minute walk from Yays Oostenburgergracht

5. Sissy-Boy Christmas market - Amstelveld
Every year Sissy-Boy organises one of the best events of the winter season; The Sissy-Boy Christmas market on the Amstelveld! With fashion, nice accessories and furniture for your home and beautiful products from various young entrepreneurs, the Sissy-Boy Christmas market is the place to buy the best and most original gifts for the whole family and for yourself, of course.

When: Saturday 15 December, 10:00 - 18:00
Where: Brasserie Nel, Amstelveld 12 - Easy to reach from all Yays locations by public transport or on foot from the city centre of Amsterdam
