More than fifty thousand runners are able to participate annually in the Dam to Dam Run every September. This local event is so special because of the great atmosphere and the unique passage through the IJtunnel.
Come cheer on the participants and enjoy the vibe or even better, participate (but get your tickets in time)! The start and finish are located in two different cities and runs through different neighbourhoods. The main distance is 10 English Mile, with every year some top athletes at the start.
A day earlier the Damloop by night takes place. 15,000 runners will cover a distance of 5 miles (8 km) in the dark, through the lit streets of Zaandam. The newest part of the biggest running event in the Netherlands is particularly attractive for novice runners but is also perfect as a warm-up for the 10 English Mile on Sunday.
The events are part of the Dam tot Dam Weekend, which, with over 87,000 participants, is the largest sporting weekend in the Netherlands. Runners organisation Le Champion also organises the Dam tot Dam Walking Tour, a walking event for 16,000 walkers. The following day up to 6,000 cyclists will compete in the Dam tot Dam FietsClassic cycling event.
The event starts near Yays Oostenburgergracht but runs through the city centre, so is easily reachable from any location (be aware public transport may be delayed).
