Enjoy typical local Amsterdam music and more during the Jordaan Festival and unlock this vibrant neighbourhood!
The Jordaan area is a classic old Amsterdam neighbourhood, probably the most famous neighbourhood of the Netherlands, only a short and pleasant stroll from Yays Bickersgracht and Yays Zoutkeetsgracht. In this area, the "Jordaan Festival" takes place every August. Listen to one of the local famous folk singers singing typical Dutch songs and if you know them, you can even sing along. An ideal way to get up close and personal with the locals!
During the Jordaan Festival, you can also participate in local games, enjoy opera and stand up comedy or stroll along the flea markets for some local souvenirs. This event is suitable for anyone who enjoys music! There are activities for young and old, so families are very welcome!
With this festival, the still active community that has lived in the area for generations is trying to keep the unique characteristics of the neighbourhood alive. The Jordaan used to be a working-class area, transformed now into a more upscale neighbourhood with expensive classic houses. Here's you'll not only find the Jordaan Festival but also many (modern) art galleries, boutique restaurants and speciality shops. For a taste of local culture besides the festival, visit one of the markets, such as the Noordermarkt, Westerstraat (Lapjesmarkt textile market) or the Lindergracht market.
