The Flower Strip or 'Bollenstreek' is one of the most popular and unique sights in the Netherlands where millions of flowers blossom each spring. Tulipomania is a true event in Amsterdam and the neighbourhoods, and there are plenty of places to enjoy tulips in and around the city throughout the season.
For a colourful glimpse into the contemporary Dutch flower power, you need to go no further than the so-called flower strip, just an hour away from Amsterdam. With Holland’s famous bulb fields in full bloom, you’ll be surrounded on all sides by a rainbow of flowers: purple hyacinths, pink crocuses, countless varieties of tulips and bright yellow daffodils. Photo opportunities aplenty! Don’t miss one of the world’s most photogenic attractions, the Keukenhof Flower Gardens, which opens for just eight short weeks each year.
Rent a Yays bike
If you would like to see the Flower Power in action the local way, why not rent a Yays bike and take on of the bicycle routes from Amsterdam through the countryside? There are many routes for beginners and more seasoned cyclists and it gives you a glimpse of local life along the many picturesque villages.
Tulips in the neighbourhoods
Many market stalls during the week and in the weekends sell tulips for a good price, to spice up your apartment and give your temporary stay that feeling from home. For example, try the Lindenmarkt on Saturdays, not far from Yays Zoutkeetsgracht or Yays Bickersgracht. And for residents staying at Yays Oostenburgergracht, the Dappermarkt is not far and will be sure to have some colourful tulips for you to smell!
Contact your concierge during your stay at Yays Zoutkeetsgracht, Bickersgracht or Oostenburgergracht or Entrepothaven for more information and tickets!
