Amsterdam Zuidoost is a colourful place to be this summer as the Kwaku Festival ( previously known as the Kwakoe Festival) comes to the Nelson Mandela park for a week full of multicultural fun!
This colourful festival is focused on bringing both people and cultures together in one setting with food, drink, dance and sports adding to the vibrant festivities. Originally set to celebrate the abolition of slavery in Suriname and the Dutch Antilles on the 1 July 1863, and the name derives from a statue erected to commemorate this momentous occasion!
Have an appetite for street food? One of the biggest draws of the event is the collection of street food vendors of which many participate for this event only! Feast your senses with ribs in Surinamese sace, to spicy Koren tacos, to plenty more delicacies from Africa, Asia and the Middle East. You taste buds are due for a party!
