Neighbourhood info

Amsterdam is a place where the old, the new and the possible come together to shape the cityscape. Some neighbourhoods more than others are a living reminder of how the urban space can be the result of imagination, initiative, and love for the future.

Cruquiuseiland, where Yays Entrepothaven stands, is one of those. The peninsula is a man-made strip of land in the Eastern Docklands of the city, built between 1875 and 1925Being a brilliant example of the Dutch talent of reclaiming land from the sea, the area is appropriately named after Nicolaus Cruquius, a meteorologist and cartographer from the 17th century whcontributed to the developments of water management.

Formerly an extension of the port of Amsterdam and an industrial area, today the neighbourhood is an up-and-coming area that the City designated to develop into an innovative residential and business area.

Welcome to the neighbourhood

Stylish and modern, the Yays Entrepothaven Apartments are beautifully located in an upcoming area surrounded by water.

BRUUT BROUWCAFÉ

Amsterdam is a great city for beer lovers, with its many local breweries. Bruut Bier is one of the newest craft breweries in town and a great place to visit. The café is situated in 'Huisje Insulinde', the former head office of Oliefabriek Insulinde (Oil factory Insulinde), specialised in producing coconut oil. The oil made place for a small craft brewery, who dares to be different. T: +31(0)20 331 27 27

HANGAR

It might look far out, the other side of the IJ called Noord (North). It actually is just a short and pleasant ferry ride from the Eastern Docklands, and it is not going to disappoint you. Hangar is located next to the mooring point of the ferry, and is and the name implies in a hangar. The interior looks warm and welcoming, so does the menu. But the greatest aspect might be their big terrace which gives you the feeling you're lounging on a beach. T: +31(0)20 363 86 57

MAJESTEIT TAART

Cake, tarts, pastries - it is the favourite sweet treat for many. If it is just because you feel like it or you have something to celebrate. At Majesteit Taart they take the sweet delight to a whole different level, it is more like art. Visit the shop to admire the beautiful mermaid or unicorn tarts or cupcakes. You can do great high teas here too. T: +31(0)20 334 53 11

MUSEUM PERRON OOST

The smallest museum in the world telling the stories of the former and new residents of the Eastern Docklands. The monument consists of different elements, the former platform and rail tracks, an old wagon and the platform house. This where all trains arrived to deliver goods or pick-up cattle from the Veemarkt. Nowadays, it tells the history of the area with an exhibition in the platform house. It is so small you can see everything through the windows. T: +31(0)6 12797707

CACAOMUSEUM

Chocolate lovers be prepared! Once you enter this little museum, we're sure that you will leave with a couple of the world's best chocolate bars in your bag. And a lot of knowledge about cacao of course. Henkjan will explain you everything you want to know, from growing and harvesting cacao beans to the differences in taste. You can also sign up for a workshop 'making praline' or 'painting with chocolate'. T: +31(0)6 12797707
