Neighbourhood info

The former independent town like Sant Andreu, to which Sagrera is home to, has not lost its beauty over time. This part of Barcelona might be camouflaged due to its lack of famous Gaudi architecture, but it is full of gems that will truly surprise you. Head to the peaceful square of Masadas and enjoy the sun, or simply wander around the neighbourhood and soak up the local stores, eateries, and markets. Still feeling like you're missing out on famous architecture? You'll be surprised how easily you can get to Hospital Sant Pau and even the Sagrada Familia, both within walking distance.

Welcome to the Neighbourhood

'La vida local' would best describe the vibe of the La Sagrera neighbourhood. Yays Sagrera is located in the heart of this beautiful area. Picturesque cobbled streets, local markets and peaceful local squares are just some of those charming features to soak up the Catalonian culture. Besides the beautiful and mostly unknown landmarks of this neighbourhood, the best feature might be the plentiful choices of truly traditional Catalan cuisine.

TORRE ROSA

In a city filled with sophisticated and slick drinking establishments, Torre Rosa stands out from the crowd, almost by trying less hard to impress. Set in a sprawling old-style house with native American architecture, there are slightly ‘off’ touches like pinball machines and a darts board - but this is more than made up for. Quality cocktails are made with real skill and love by Cecilia, Clavell and their grown-up kids. There’s also a sprawling outdoors area, where you can sit back with your mojito under the stars. T: (+34) 93 340 88 54

HOSPITAL DE SANT PAU

If a more beautiful or historic ex-hospital exists, please let us know. This one was founded in 1401, but the building as it stands was inaugurated in 1930, and is now a UNESCO world heritage site. It ceased to be a working hospital in 2009, (so you don’t even need to injure yourself to get in.) and offers amazing views of the Sagrada Familia as well as boasting amazing architecture and garden of its own. T: (+34) 93 556 55 77

PLAZA MASADAS

The Plaza Masadas is as peaceful as it is picturesque. An out-of-the-way square with French neoclassic architecture, it’s a place to find a bench and watch the pigeons bathe in the fountain as the heat slowly leaves the evening. There is also a market each first Sunday of the month, where you can find antique toys.

BUNKERS DEL CARMEL

A lot of people forget that Spain had a civil war in 1936; these old anti-aircraft bunkers are a relic of that conflict. Offering panoramic views over the entire city, they are a wonderful place to visit to find a sense of perspective not just over the skyline, but also the metropolis’ varied and romantic history. On your way we suggest dropping in on the charming Parque del Guinardó, just a short walking distance away.

LA CHOLITA

If you are looking for a culinary experience in the neighbourhood, don’t look any further. This gastrobar serves tapas, not the ‘traditional way’, but unique and innovative. We say ‘bravo’ chef for being so creative. As this place is quite small and gets packed easily, we recommend you to arrive early. T: (+34) 93 280 94 93
