Amsterdam will play host to the annual International Broadcasting Convention held at the Amsterdam RAI convention centre once again in 2018. With 57,000 visitors and 1,700 exhibitors ready to reveal their latest products and services, it is the leading tradeshow for professionals in the broadcasting industry to engage in the creation, management and delivery of broadcasting media and entertainment.
Why in Amsterdam? The first IBC was held in 1967 in London, where just 32 exhibitors and 500 conference delegates had attended. Back then, broadcasting was a rather different business. Through the years, the IBC grew and eventually, in 1990, there was not enough space in London for exhibition and meeting space, as well as a shortage of accommodation. In July 1992, IBC moved from the UK to the Netherlands. With very specific demands of the IBC organisation, convention centre Amsterdam RAI was chosen. From 1994, IBC became an annual event, and it has remained in Amsterdam ever since.
Looking for somewhere to stay so that you don’t miss out on all the action this year? Yays Concierged Boutique Apartments is a travel and stay concept that reroutes urban tourism. Close enough to the city centre for convenience by means of public transport (and no more than 30 minutes to Amsterdam RAI), the boutique apartments are located in historical buildings, restored with respect for the neighbourhoods and hosted by local concierges from the Amsterdam area. The three properties; Yays Zoutkeetsgracht and Yays Bickersgracht in the West, and Yays Oostenburgergracht in the East, are situated in lively areas that you will not find on tourist maps, where you as a guest are able to experience life as a local.
Got an afternoon free? Explore the Yays neighbourhoods with a Yays bicycle! Or take a stroll along the Bickers Island and discover quaint marina-based restaurants and cafes. Yays listed their personal favourites within our custom-made neighbourhood guide with recommendations from guests, local staff and neighbours, especially for your meeting and networking purposes.
And the cherry on top of the cake? Start a conversation with one of the local concierges who are at your service 24 hours! They can help you with booking tickets to the best museums, boat trips and attractions, and can give you all the insider tips of the neighbourhood about where to meet, drink, network and dine.
